Exploring the Future of Neurosurgery: Dr. Muath Abdelkarim Ibrahim Abbakr to Speak at the 5th International Neurosurgery and Neurological Surgeons Conference in Dubai, UAE

The global neurosurgical community eagerly awaits the 5th International Neurosurgery and Neurological Surgeons Conference, a CME/CPD-accredited international event that unites the world’s leading neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuroscientists, and researchers. Scheduled to take place from January 14–16, 2026, at the prestigious Novotel Al Barsha Hotel, Dubai, UAE, this global summit will spotlight cutting-edge advancements in neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, neurovascular surgery, spine care, and brain science.

We are pleased to announce Mr. Muath Abdelkarim Ibrahim Abbakr as an invited Speaker at this global event.

About Dr. Muath Abdelkarim Ibrahim Abbakr

Dr. Muath Abbakr is a dedicated Sudanese clinician with a strong foundation in surgery, currently working as a Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery at Queen’s Hospital, London. With extensive experience across neurosurgery, trauma, orthopaedics, and acute care, he brings a comprehensive understanding of surgical management, patient safety, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

After completing his MBBS in Sudan, Dr. Abbakr undertook a 12-month internship across core medical and surgical specialties, developing a solid foundation in safe and effective patient care. He subsequently gained 24 months of experience in Neurosurgery and Trauma & Orthopaedics, where he was actively involved in neurosurgical emergencies, fracture clinics, peri- and post-operative management, and assisting in both trauma and elective theatres.

Currently GMC-registered with a full licence to practise, Dr. Abbakr has completed the MRCS examinations and holds ALS certification, reflecting his commitment to surgical excellence and acute care competency. He has contributed to audits on surgical site infections and co-authored academic publications on vertebral artery anomalies and Chiari I malformation.

Dr. Abbakr is deeply motivated by the intricate relationship between the brain, spine, and musculoskeletal system. His long-term ambition is to specialise in neurosurgery, combining compassionate, evidence-based clinical practice with ongoing contributions to research, teaching, and the advancement of trauma and neurological care within the NHS.

About His Presentation: Chiari 1 Malformation and Decision-Making in Neurosurgery

At the upcoming Dubai conference, Dr. Muath Abbakr will deliver an insightful presentation titled:

“Chiari 1 Malformation: Factors That May Influence Decision Making, and Introducing the Chiari 1 Malformation Severity Classification System.”

Chiari 1 Malformation (CM1) remains one of the most complex and debated topics in neurosurgery — a structural abnormality at the base of the skull where part of the cerebellum extends into the spinal canal. Symptoms may include headaches, dizziness, neck pain, and neurological deficits.

Dr. Abbakr’s lecture will focus on the clinical, anatomical, and radiological factors that influence neurosurgical decision-making in CM1. He will also introduce an innovative framework — the Chiari 1 Malformation Severity Classification System — aimed at standardizing the evaluation of disease severity, improving surgical planning, and optimizing patient outcomes.

The presentation will cover:

  • Diagnostic criteria and neuroimaging interpretation in CM1.

  • Determinants of surgical intervention vs. conservative management.

  • Post-operative outcomes and patient safety protocols.

  • Development of a classification system to guide decision-making and prognostication.

This talk promises to deliver new perspectives and clinical frameworks that may redefine how neurosurgeons approach this intricate disorder — merging evidence-based science with real-world surgical experience.
